HCCDC proud to sponsor The Big Picture Fest Newcastle

Hunter and Central Coast Development Corporation (HCCDC) is thrilled to sponsor The Big Picture Fest Newcastle for a second year in 2022, as part of the NSW Government's The Festival of Place.

The internationally recognised Big Picture Fest is returning this year after the inaugural 2020 event delivered a stunning street art trail of professional large-scale murals around inner-city Newcastle.

The 3 day festival brings together world class artists and exceptional local talent, in an event where the community can watch and celebrate the live art-making in progress, and also explore the legacy artworks created in the city's 2020 event.

Newcastle is setting a high precedent for professional street art, and this year 8 new mural sites will be added to The Big Picture Fest's street art trail. The festival brings colourful activation to the city, offering a unique city exploration experience for locals and visitors alike. In addition to the legacy artworks created during the event, other festival attractions will include an opening night party, exhibitions, artist talks, workshops, graffiti jams, walking and cycling trails, and more.

HCCDC's Chief Executive Valentina Misevska said “The Big Picture Fest 2020 brought so much colour, energy and lasting vibrancy to the city; and its growing street art trail continues to strengthen the appeal of Newcastle as a fantastic place to live, work, visit and explore”.

Festival Director, Katerina Skoumbas said “this Festival invites you into the artists’ world, showing a process that leaves you with a beautiful and permanent piece of art. Having the help of our generous partners means we can attract both top-tiered artists as well as create opportunities for local and emerging artists. It’s exciting to see the second edition of this festival take shape; together we are making Newcastle into a national street-art destination”.

HCCDC is committed to creating great place and community outcomes, and enabling opportunities for creative talent to thrive. This year we're excited to partner with The Festival of Place as Official Event Sponsors, and look forward to celebrating with the community at the October long weekend festival.
