Unmissable waterfront lease opportunity
The Hunter and Central Coast Development Corporation (HCCDC) is pleased to announce a call for proposals for the lease of Honeysuckle's iconic Lee Wharf A building.
Renamed The Wharf, the federation building in the heart of Honeysuckle provides a great opportunity to create a landmark harbourside offering.
HCCDC Acting Chief Executive Valentina Misevska said that The Wharf is a rare opportunity and is expected to attract significant interest from local and national operators.
"HCCDC is seeking a tenant that can provide an attractive proposal that will create a drawcard for the area and complement other businesses within the Honeysuckle precinct," said Ms Misevska.
“It isn’t often that you open up an opportunity for an operator to lease a beautiful harbourside heritage building with a north-facing waterfront deck overlooking a working harbour - I really expect the market to be excited by this.”
The Wharf building is located on the Honeysuckle harbour promenade, close to light rail, the University of Newcastle’s future city campus and some of Newcastle’s finest bars and restaurants.
HCCDC and NSW Government have made significant investment in not only retaining the building’s heritage but also ensuring it will stand the test of time. Repairs have been made to the building’s foundations and harbour seawalls, and the original wharf deck has been reinstated, ensuring that the building will be enjoyed by the community well into the future.
“The right tenant has the potential to not only create something unique, but also a new tourist destination for Newcastle,” said Ms Misevska.
“This opportunity aligns with our vision to create vibrant communities, with unrivalled lifestyles and to provide more employment opportunities.”
The Wharf was built in 1910 in the federation style and features high ceilings with exposed timber beams. It boasts a rich history, with uses including an immigration centre and a storage shed for wool bales.
The site is being offered for commercial lease by Commercial Collective. It comprises approximately 803m2 lettable floor space and 922m2 external timber deck.
Calls for Proposal close on Thursday 6 February 2020 at 5pm.
